April 2017 Empties
Each month, I strive to finish products that are almost used up because of Project: Finish Samples. The amount of sample sized or travel sized products I own is quite overwhelming. My reasoning? I keep thinking I need to save them for upcoming trips or overnighters, but really… who am I kidding?! Just how many trips am I taking on a monthly basis? I noticed my samples were piling up and so, in an effort to diminish them, I’m using them up! This month in my April 2017 empties, I really concentrated on finishing up hair care and skin care products. You can also see my last monthly empties post (here), where I cover mascara & body care.
April 2017 Empties – Hair Care
Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo*: Drybar is well known for their blowouts and have many salons throughout the USA. This dry shampoo is one of many aerosol sprays found at Sephora and Nordstrom. Repurchase? Unfortunately I’m not too big on the scent of this product, so it’s a pass. The scent is much too overwhelming for me, but is an overall good dry shampoo.
Pro Tip: use dry shampoo at night before you need it so you wake up with nice hair, ready to go!
Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Detangling Leave-In Spray: Unfortunately, this product is now discontinued (see similar). When this product first came out, I bought it to help with my chlorine-damaged hair. Repurchase? I really enjoyed using this spray as it came out as a fine mist. It definitely helped my hair, but since it’s discontinued… I’m on the hunt for a new oil spray.
Nioxin Scalp Therapy Conditioner #3: Since I have fine hair, I never seem to finish my conditioner at the same time as my shampoo. I definitely use more shampoo than conditioner because I don’t want to weigh it down! Repurchase? Honestly speaking, I didn’t notice my hair getting stronger from the conditioner. Although, I found that the shampoo helped much more as well as the treatment!
April 2017 Empties – Skin Care
The Face Shop Character Masks: These are so fun to do! I had picked them up so my fiancé Erik and I would be able to have a masking night in. He wasn’t crazy about the serum infused mask, but enjoyed the characters. On the flip side, I love sheet masks. I find that after exfoliating and applying a sheet mask, my skin looks so much better because it’s optimally hydrated. Repurchase? Yes! There are other characters available, but in general I enjoy using THE FACE SHOP sheet masks because there are so many to choose from at an affordable price!
Glamglow Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment: The Powermud Dualcleanse treatment is great for someone who has sensitive skin. This mask helps to deep cleanse the skin weekly using its innovative mask to cleansing oil treatment. This deluxe sample size was good for 3 generous uses so I was able to give a relatively fair assessment of the mask. After using this mask, my skin was super soft and the redness had lessened. Repurchase? Potentially. It’s quite a steep price tag for something I feel could potentially be emulated with a clay mask and regular oil cleanser.
Caudalie Paris Deep Cleansing Exfoliator: This product is a fairly gritty grain exfoliator that now has different packaging. I purchased this a while ago when I still used physical exfoliants. I’m now partial to chemical exfoliants (using AHA’s, BHA’s, etc.) because I learned I am way too rough on my face when I use grainy scrubs. Repurchase? Probably not. Caudalie does have a glycolic acid mask that I’m interested in though!
Bioderma Crealine H2O wipes: I bought these wipes on a whim when I was at the drugstore. I had gone in to purchase the micellar water, but these caught my eye so I picked it up as well. Overall, these wipes are a good alternative to those lazy days… but I don’t usually make wipes a staple in my beauty routine. Repurchase? Probably not. I like my regular Bioderma micellar water much better!
Piu Clear Washing Powder: Purchased in Japan, I wanted to try out the Piu skincare line because it claimed to help with acne. I had a bad bout of acne when I was on vacation and honestly would try anything. Repurchase? Nah. Although I love powder cleansers (they last longer!), this one was only so-so. I didn’t find that it did too much for my acne.
Bioderma Hydrabio Serum: This is a small sample sized serum lasted me almost the whole month! You only need a small amount and this is a great travel size. I really enjoyed using this serum because I found that it gave my skin more hydration without making my skin oily. Repurchase? In the future, probably!
Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Crème: The gel-crème has more a gel texture and is fairly light. Despite it being light, I didn’t find that my skin enjoyed it very much. I found that my skin would be too dry even though I always paired it with the serum. For my skin, it may just be a summer product since it wasn’t ready for lighter products this month! Repurchase? For the summertime, I probably would repurchase.
Jacynthe Eau Florale de Rose*: I love the scent of roses and this hydrasol definitely has a rose scent. Jacynthe makes her own products and this Eau Florale de Rose is hydrating and relaxing. Repurchase? I love mists and I have a whole arsenal of them. Definitely repurchasing this to keep in my skincare rotation.
Piu Water: Purchased in Japan where my acneic skin was wreaking havoc, I tried the whole line as a last resort on vacation. I kept using the water and I found that this toner helped with mattifying the skin. The Piu Water had powder in the formula which turned out to be a little bit white on the skin, but disappeared after moisturizer. Repurchase? For the summer, potentially. I found that this toner helped with mattifying my face.
