What is a detox? Detoxification may refer to the removal of toxic substances from a living organism. This is why so many people around the Spring go through cleanses and detox kits in order to rid your body of toxins. I have never tried any of these methods myself. As a skeptic, I'm curious but don't believe a juice fast or just eating cabbage for a week will rid your body of said toxins. Each year, I like to reflect on my life and see where I am at versus where I would like to be in terms of my goals. I never used to believe vision boards or writing down goals just because I knew what I wanted, so why write it down?
At the instance of the Grand Mistress of the domain, I have been pulled from my busy schedule of heavy procrastination, to finally post an article on this site. But what topic can offer the appropriate magnitude of grandeur on a site that brings style for life?! Well I have been discussing with Jennifer several food related topics, but it wasn't till I started writing about wine that I decided to make an article bridging the two subjects as a start here. That said, pairing is a simple way to really add a little class to your dining experience. It really enhance meals in many surprising ways. Now pairing a drink with your meal is not necessarily a foreign concept to some. In fact you probably do it all the time, but here are a few fun tips with wine.
I still remember the very first makeup item I purchased; mascara. I was in the seventh grade and my friend introduced me to the makeup isle. All the products looked interesting to me but it was definitely overwhelming. I decided on a little tube of mascara and looking back, I probably wasn't the most skilled at applying it. Several years later and I've been through many tubes of mascara and have compiled this list of my top 5!
During the winter months, it gets to be really cold here in the Great White North. I had previously written about moisturizers, but mostly focusing on the body... so what about your face?? Face on our skin gets pretty beat up during the winter season so good skin care is vital. The frequent hot to cold and drying heaters in our homes mess with our skin's natural pH and destroys the equilibrium of the acid mantle. Acid what? Never heard of the term? Don't worry, not too many people have! The skin is very delicate and even the slightest imbalance can cause your skin to go into a tizzy... Here's how to supplement your winter skin care with hydrating masks!
The winter months are harsh. Let's be real. Chapped lips, windburned cheeks, just a few things that nobody likes about the season. Skincare is essential during the winter otherwise we end up getting flaky skin and that definitely is not cute. Not only that but without a proper skincare routine, central heating, UV rays and extreme change in temperatures can be extremely irritating for our skin. So how exactly do we combat the terrible winter months to help protect our skin? Using moisturizers help! And I can definitely give you a head start by letting you guys know about my favourites...
Giddy Yoyo is a Canadian company that's based in Ontario and believes in quality products. They create organic, raw, heirloom chocolate that is always fair trade and organic among other products. Dubbed as the "Official Chocolate Bar of Yoga", this sweet treat is bound to please. Along with their chocolates, they have their own line of superfoods such as Maca and Cacao Power, wheatgrass, and body butter. Their Giddy Yoyo body butter is amazing, but we'll save that for another day. I recently purchased their original chocolate and I've been thinking about it ever since...
My boyfriend recently surprised me with a Fitbit Surge watch which I have been wearing everyday. I love that I can track just how many steps I take in a day and that I can challenge others to meet their goals by going head-to-head. The ease of tracking your exercise is as easy as putting on your watch in the morning. The Fitbit Surge does have an awesome feature though, it has a sleep tracker embedded in the watch which allows you to see how restless you are at night.
I love tea, especially in the wintertime. It gets so cold up here in Canada that drinking tea has become a daily ritual for me! Green teas, black teas, white teas... I love all varieties but have been especially obsessed with the Hōjicha (Houjicha) (ほうじ茶) that my dad brought back from Japan. It's a roasted green tea that has a lower amount of caffeine and is often used as an after-dinner tea to help aid with digestion in Japan. Made from the leaves, this brown looking tea tastes nutty and is a good accompaniment to sweets. I prefer its mild flavour as I don't generally like bold tastes, especially when I'm cooped up inside reading!
I was wandering around my local supermarket and noticed something new in the aisle. I've been trying to find a more natural body cream as I had just run out of my Vaseline Shea Butter and absolutely loved the consistency, potency and smell of the product. By wandering the health and beauty section of the store, I thought that I'd find something natural yet similar to what I already know I like. That's when I was introduced to the brand, Giddy Yoyo.
