I haven't talked about any initiatives that I'm a fan of, but I love when companies give back. During my high school years, we were required to do at least 40 hours of volunteer work. I enjoyed volunteering and giving back so much that I actually had accumulated over 115 hours! I feel that giving back is very important and that's why I love the Mary Kay Beauty That Counts Baked Cheek Powder. These rosy glow blushes give back to the community, are highly pigmented and also beautiful on the cheeks!
If you're unfamiliar with my monthly empties posts, I've been making an effort to diminish my huge pile of samples and products (see blog post here: Project: Finish Samples). Just as a disclaimer though, I don't use more product in an effort to just get rid of it! I still only use the same amount (e.g. 1 pump for serum) and I don't drown my skin in moisturizer. I just make a more conscious effort to use the same things daily rather than dabbling in many products at once. You can check out my previous empties posts here and here... but this month's empties are different!
When it comes to skincare, I make sure I do my research to ensure it works for my skin! I grew up having terrible acne and have always researched for hours on end trying to figure out ways to get rid of it. So from an early age, I was interested in perfecting skin. A lot of the products that I've found that actually help me the most are acid based. From AHA's to BHA's, time after time, I noticed my skin becoming more clear peel after peel. So when I heard of a product having the same efficacy as 3 peels, you bet I wanted to try it! If I could reduce the number of products in my current routine, but still get the same results... that would be great! More time in my day (to do more research!).
When a new palette comes out, I find that you see a ton of looks that feature the popular shades. What about the colours that are lesser used? You know what I'm talking about... that bright blue in that palette you have, when are you ever going to use it? That's why when I got the Sweet Peach palette from Too Faced, I told myself I was going to go out of the norm of those pretty peach shades and use the greens and purples. I created a look that featured some neutral shades as I was going to an event and created this gorgeous Sweet Peach nighttime look.
Too Faced has come out with many cute releases in the past and the Sweet Peach launch is no exception! This sweet smelling collection smells like peach candies and is perfect for these warmer months. In 2016, it was the most talked about product and was sold out within minutes. Now back in stock, the Sweet Peach palette is accompanied with an entire collection. Featuring 18 beautiful shades of peachy pinks, corals, bronzes and pops of purple, each shade is infused with a juicy scent that smells just like peaches!
Known for their natural products, Weleda has a cute little travel kit for you to try out! Dubbed the Mighty Essentials kit, this pouch holds 5 great travel sized minis. Preserved with natural ingredients and coloured with essential plant extracts, all of Weleda's formulas are naturally fragranced with essential oils and plant extracts.
Each month, I strive to finish products that are almost used up because of Project: Finish Samples. The amount of sample sized or travel sized products I own is quite overwhelming. My reasoning? I keep thinking I need to save them for upcoming trips or overnighters, but really... who am I kidding?! Just how many trips am I taking on a monthly basis? I noticed my samples were piling up and so, in an effort to diminish them, I'm using them up! This month in my April 2017 empties, I really concentrated on finishing up hair care and skin care products. You can also see my last monthly empties post (here), where I cover mascara & body care.
Moor Spa products are 100% naturally derived and free of petroleum derivatives, synthetic chemicals and potentially toxic ingredients. Moor Spa products also do not contain any artificial preservatives or test on animals. I've used green beauty products before (post on why: here) and it's nice to see a natural alternative for the spa. Over the past few years, I've noticed more green beauty brands and existing brands changing formulations to be more natural-friendly. Since it's a new season, I needed a new skincare routine and I was able to try out a few products to put together a Moor Spa Skincare Review.
Cleansing oils are fairly popular in the beauty scene, particularly in Asia. They're mostly used to remove makeup, but wash off cleanly with water. Read: cleanly. There's (generally) no greasy feeling, no oily film... just clean skin! The double cleansing method is my favourite way to remove makeup because I find that it generally removes most (if not all!) of my makeup in the first cleanse, and it involves a cleansing oil. I never really thought about how cleansing oils work until Erik (my fiancé) asked me how the oil helps to remove makeup. This made me think about it and want to do some research!
I was hanging out with some friends recently and were talking about how beautiful false lashes were. It can elevate an otherwise every day look to a glam, sexy eye. Long, full lashes are definitely the most coveted accessories year-round. But unfortunately, if you have fine lashes like me, sometimes layering on mascara just isn't enough. When I was younger, I thought false lashes only came around during Halloween and it wasn't until high school that I realized just how far false lashes have come for everyday use! Whether you step foot in a drugstore or specialty store, there are so many different styles of false lashes available now that there is something for everyone. And yes, you can definitely find natural false lashes!
