Post election, I know many people are feeling a bit down... but the SAD I'm talking about is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Most of the articles I see on SAD are well into the winter season but it's easier to prevent SAD before it happens. Some symptoms of SAD include the following: increased carbohydrate cravings, weight gain, fatigue, feeling overwhelmed and in some extreme cases, feeling depressed.
Some days, we know we're not getting the best quality (or length!) of sleep that we need every day. While our bodies recharge at night, our skin does too! Board certified NYC dermatologist Dr. Kaleroy Papantoniou explains that during sleep, we heal, restore and eliminate toxins from the skin. (See a previous post on her expertise here!)
When you're planning a workout, there's already so much to think about... what type of exercise, how many reps, staying hydrated.. etc. I just started getting my own exercise regimen in and it's tough (read here!). It's no wonder that we forget that what we put in our bodies is also an important part of our workout routine! So, what should we eat as the best pre work out foods?
Since early March of 2015, I have been suffering from extremely tight back and neck muscles from a combination of sports injury, bad posture, and job stress (see my other blog posts on Burnout Syndrome and Cell Phone Neck). Thankfully, our friends at the OMNI Health and Rehab Clinic were able to get me back on track, through a customized treatment plan, designed specifically for me. This treatment plan included the use of the Biofreeze Cold Therapy Pain Relief family of products. The Biofreeze Pain Reliever products use a clinical strength formula consisting of the active ingredient menthol with a synergistic blend of inactive ingredients. The resulting formula offers quick, effective pain relief without the use of prescription drugs, and is designed to target pain quickly.I have tried countless other brands of topical anesthetic, but Biofreeze is clearly the winner in my books! RUB-A535, Voltaren, and Tiger Balm don't even sit in the same realm of comparison.
This past weekend, my girlfriend (Jenny) and I attended the Yoga Conference at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. I had been complaining all morning of a sore throat. Seasonal allergies and a change in weather had made the back of my throat feel a bit raw. I was yearning for something that would just make the itch go away!In the past I've used a teaspoon of honey to calm down a sore throat and it normally does a decent job...for about an hour. One of the booths on the Trade Show floor that caught my eye was an exhibitor by the name of Beekeeper's Naturals. With a vibrant yellow booth, and a stellar logo, I was naturally curious. As I approached closer, the friendly exhibitor and company co-founder, Daniel, inquired if I had ever experienced the benefits of Propolis before. To be perfectly honest, I had never even heard of the word. (What's propolis?!)
My boyfriend recently surprised me with a Fitbit Surge watch which I have been wearing everyday. I love that I can track just how many steps I take in a day and that I can challenge others to meet their goals by going head-to-head. The ease of tracking your exercise is as easy as putting on your watch in the morning. The Fitbit Surge does have an awesome feature though, it has a sleep tracker embedded in the watch which allows you to see how restless you are at night.
