When life gets stressful, we tend to put our bodies into overdrive. These past few months have been packed with so many activities and things on my schedule, it was hard to make time for myself. Mindfulness meditation and other ways of dealing with stress has helped me with making the past month bearable. Discovering different ways to deal with a hectic schedule has been on my mind for a while and here are a few ways I deal with stress!
I am a total advocate for meditation. I don’t do this all the time, but whenever I am stressed, I remind myself to take a step back and take a few deep breaths. This helps calm me and actually puts me into a clearer state of mind so I can come back to my work feeling a lot more alive and motivated. I listen to a few Deepak Chopra recordings and although it can take some time to get used to, I find it helps me a lot. I like to turn off the lights and lie down in a quiet, dark room and concentrate on the words. Mindfulness is really important and it helps me deal with life in the moment. To be mindful, you must pay attention to your thoughts and feelings without judgement, the key to being happy!
When I am stressed, the house is always clean. It’s amazing what constrained deadlines and meetings can do for the home! I feel more calm and relaxed when cleaning up because the results are instant. You can see just how much more clean or organized something is with just a bit of time.
Lastly, there’s nothing more soothing than a nice warm cup of tea or a hot bath to help calm down nerves. For me, being warm makes me feel cozy and safe. My sister recently made a bath salt soak that was super relaxing, keep an eye out for a post on that!
Regardless of what your day/week/month has been like, remember that life will always have its ups and downs! Having a strong support group like friends and family will help you get through the rough patches.
