Prettyful Hair & Makeup Lash Lift Review

Ever heard of a lash lift? The average person has probably not heard about a lash lift but has heard of its more glamorous cousin: the lash extension. Lash lifts are nice because they don’t require as much maintenance as eyelash extensions and are a wonderful alternative if you’re looking for something to quicken up your morning routine! Marianne from Prettyful Hair & Makeup was kind enough to contact me and try out a lashlift service. (Regular rates here) Having never gotten one before and only hearing about it once, I went to do a bit of research on what it is and what the results looked like. I was glad that it looked natural and was able to last around 6-8 weeks if taken care of. For my current low maintenance lifestyle, it was perfect for me.

If you’ve ever met my lashes pre-lift, they weren’t the worst, but I hated applying mascara to a few of my lashes because they were dead straight. I mean, not matter how long I curl my lashes, I can always count on those few straight lashes to droop back down. Luckily, Marianne told me that getting a lash lift would help my lashes stay where I wanted to; even if only for a few weeks. Treatment time takes around 45 minutes and rates start at $60 CAD.

Before getting my lash lift, I was a bit curious to know what a lash lift was and it turns out that the traditional method of lash lifting required natural lashes to be wrapped around a sponge rod. This method often made lashes look different each time with short and inconsistent curls. Marianne from Prettyful Hair & Makeup does a new method of lash lifting. She uses Sugarlash products (yay for supporting Canadian companies!) and makes sure that all of her products in her many services are up to her high standards.

Before beginning the lash lift process, a gentle shampoo wash must be applied in order to ensure the lashes are clean and prepped for the perming solution.

Next, the process starts with a protective pad over the bottom lashes to hold them down during the lash lift service. Next, silicone pads are secured to the eyelid and the lashes are lifted and secured onto the bump of the pad. This step takes a bit of time because whatever position your lashes are in is how your lashes will stay after the lash lift so Marianne made sure that each lash was placed just so and was perfect and ready for the next step.

Once the eyelashes are lifted and in place, Marianne applied the gel perming solution to the roots of the lashes. It’s in gel form to ensure that it stays put.

Since I had to have my eyes closed for 10 minutes for the perming solution to do its job, it was hard (and a bit scary) to have them closed for so long! Luckily, Marianne knew exactly how to calm a girl down and take some time up… a hand massage!

After the 10 minutes were up for the lift, the gel is removed and a setting gel is applied. I’ve never gotten a perm done before and the scent of the gel was kind of weird at first, making my eyes water just a bit. Neither gel irritated my eyes and after another 10 minutes, a nourishing oil is applied to bring back some nutrition and life to my lashes.

When I opened my eyes again, it was a little bit of a sting… but not enough to irritate my eyes with redness or anything like that. I couldn’t stop smiling and admiring my new beautiful lashes!

Even though a lash lift in the short term may save you time in the morning… in order to extend the life of your lashes, Marianne advised me to take special care of them in order to have them last the longest!

Using oil based products around your eyes or lashes can actually cause your lash lift to come undone! From makeup to moisturizers and face washes, if it doesn’t say “oil free”, don’t use it! Another tip that Marianne made sure I knew was to be gentle with my lashes! Rubbing or pulling on them will cause damage to the natural lashes. Overall, because I’m used to removing my makeup with an oil… it was quite difficult for me to find a cleanser that worked well to remove my makeup while also being oil-free! Thankfully I was able to find some that were able to be used and lasted my lashlift quite a while!
