Top 5 Spring Cookbooks
It’s that time of year, when fresh produce and fruits are in season and more people are wanting to spring clean their diet! I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite spring cookbooks which feature wonderfully easy meals that remind us that healthy eating is easier than we think!
Spring is a time where everyone feels the need to reboot their system as well as their diets. I purchased all of the books mentioned here at Chapters. Here are my top 5 favourite spring cookbooks:
1 Clean Green Drinks – Candice Kumai
I love Kumai’s never ending quest for fresh ingredients and healthy food. I’ve tried a lot of the recipes found within the cookbook and my favourite ones are The Chocolate Morning Wake Up, Matcha Green Tea Smoothie, The Chocolate Peanut Butter Monster and the refreshing Lemon Blueberry Bliss. With over 100 recipes found in the book, I haven’t tried all of them just yet but out of the ones that I have, they’re all great! Even my fiancé who hates vegetables won’t mind sharing… as long as I don’t tell him what’s in it! ?
2 Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You Give a F*ck – Thug Kitchen
I originally bought this for my fiancé a long time ago so that we could start cooking healthy meals together but I’ve now taken it and used it as a staple when I can’t figure out what to eat! With a refreshing (or condenscending) approach to cooking, Thug Kitchen gives modern take on how to get started with cooking healthier in the kitchen. My favourites are: the Roasted Potato Salad with Fresh Herbs, Yellow Split Pea & Green Onion Lettuce Wraps, Baked Zucchini Chips as well as many, if not all, of the sauces. I found a less offensive photo, but this is the gist of how the Thug Kitchen rolls.
3 Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat – Chrissy Teigen
Teigen is known for her love of food! Just check out her Instagram where she’s always cooking up something delicious! I’ve yet to cook from this book, but flipping through.. her favourites look drool-worthy!! Among the dishes that look the best: Chinese Chicken Salad (which Chrissy says is “one of my favourite green things from the book”), another dish she says is a fan favourite is her Lemon Cacio e Pepe Spaghetti (super cheesy!) and finally for a sweet dish, the Dutch Baby! Plated so beautifully, it’s no wonder this little dish has over 20,000 tags on Instagram.
4 The Blender Girl – Tess Masters
Having had most of the recipes in this book, this book is a great opportunity to explore more recipes from your blender other than the regular smoothies! From dips to soups and even an awesome veggie bake, there’s lots that your blender can offer! My favourites are Masters’ Raspberry-Lemon cheesecake smoothie, ginger-apple-pear butter and the creamy mushroom stroganoff (can’t get enough of mushrooms in my meals, so tasty!). All of the 100 recipes found in the book are gluten-free and vegan and are sure to get you out of that smoothie rut!
5 The Beauty Detox Solution – Kimberly Snyder
Now out with another book, The Beauty Detox Power, Snyder’s first book has lots of great recipes and tips on why an alkaline diet is key. From an old and steady diet of junk, Snyder was like most of us who think healthy food comprises of soy burgers, fat-free milk and yogurt. Unfortunately, there’s a lot more that we need to learn! Kimberly breaks it all down in this book and it’s really an eye-opening read! Although I don’t follow the diet religiously, but I enjoy the Glowing Green Smoothie (careful though, it has a “green” taste!) as well as her rainbow stuffed peppers. This book is more of an informational read, but it’s definitely something I recommend to kick start a more healthy life!
You can pick up all of these books at Chapters or your local bookstore now. For Canadians, Chapters has a free shipping, no minimum offer on now from April 12-14!
